Marion aka Muffin's Story

Whether for a season (such as sharing times from 5 years of HS and then moving on) or a reason, (staying connectd by friendship with those met in HS), I am looking forward to the Woody reunion. It will add a stitch into my blanket of experience with people I have crossed the same path with at a specific point in time. It will add fabric to those who I still maintain some level of relationship. It will be mesmerizing to join up with all who are connected into the 50 year Family of Woodroffe H.S. I should have graduated a year earlier than I did. However I left home at 16, took a year off school to work as a live in babysitter for 4 kids that were 1, 3, 6 and 8 (WHEW that was a picnic) all in the grande scheme to save money to go back to school and put myself through grade 13. As a teenager not living at home being supported, my HS years brought challenges that were not known or shared, except with persons who I felt confidence to trust. Including the death of my mother at a the age of 17. But I set a goal and kept a positive upbeat attitude despite this that I would return to school and I would graduate. I don't know exactly when I discovered that you need to create and design your own life and to be courageous enough to turn a page but I am convinced it was a gift that God gave me to see me through difficult times in young stages of my life. I wasn't an ace student in HS but from grade 1-4 I accelareted in Public school and skipped what equated to 2 years. Circumstances of living conditions can dramatically change how you can achieve good grades later in life. I was happy to pass high school, even though I needed to attend summer school for biology. The death of my mother in HS was actually an awakening and through that I transformed myself from somewhat of an introvert (through my own daily self talk to create confidence that I never had)into a borderline extrovert and someone who wanted to get to know "everyone". I associated with as many as I could and befriended those I sensed needed a friend. So I had no clicks that I associated with. I knew...Expand for more
from my own personal challenges and learning experience that I would open my world and listen and associate with many, for different reasons and on various levels. I left school and worked at Treble Clef for a couple of years before deciding to take Radio and Television at Algonquin. I was offered a job as a newspaper reporter that I did not pursue in Northern Ontario. (New Lisgard). I moved to Edmonton in 1981 and sent out resumes to radio stations to work as a copy writer. I did this for a time at CFCW in Alberta. My career has since covered roles in advertising media sales for a Northern Alberta based paper, Program Director for a Northern Alberta Native Radio station, computer trainer, helpdesk support analyst, a technical recruiter and a national proposal writer. I currently work for a company as a proposal writer/coordinator after moving back to Ottawa from Edmonton in 1997. I have just written a book that will be published very soon. It's a blend of poetry and non commercial tea recipes. I am not sure if it will be ready in time for the reunion. I have always enjoyed writing at various levels. I have volunteered for registration night at Woodroofe on the Saturday night from 5:00-7:30 p.m. I hope that if you are from my date period you will take time to chat. I hope if you are from another date period, you will take time to chat. I can't wait to catch up with old friends and potential new ones. It's gonna be a blast! No surprise that I am attending the Friday night Pub night. Ways to relax. Write poetry, drink beer, go camping with friends and drink beer, play on the internet or have a game of Euchre with friends and .... Put in a mentally challenging day at work - come home sit on my deck and drink beer. Plant a garden and water it and myself with some beer. Have a fire in my fireplace and sip wine, followed with a beer. Sleep off all the beer I drank. Funny how you "acquire" taste. When I was a kid I didn't like the taste of brussel sprouts or zuccini - now really enjoy. As a teenager or in my 20's I couldn't stand the taste of beer.
